September 25th 1915
'Uncle Henry...'  The story of one man’s war.

An old family snapshot: a sporty looking young man steps out into the sunlight with a cup of tea, he holds the saucer in both hands. They sometimes shake badly and he doesn't want the cup to rattle in the saucer and spill the tea. He is wearing a sweater under his jacket. It has been a cool summer and he feels the cold. The day is his birthday, Monday 30th August 1915. He is 33. 26 days later he will be dead.

At the bottom of the photo one of his nieces has written; 'Uncle Henry...'

He was my Great Uncle. This is the story of his life, and my journey to retrace his steps last year.

Next Performance:

'Between the Forest and the River'

It is between the forest and the river that these stories live, carried by the forest streams to the river and into the sea. All are metaphors for what the stories tell us. When I was growing up, a river and a forest and the journey between were a daily reality. It is the folktales that connect to this that I will tell you tonight.

THE FURTHER ADVENTURES

OF MR PICKWICK
 by Charles Dickens

Misunderstandings multiply in the darkness of the night.

A new adaptation performed in English by Robert MacCall

Following on from last year's 'Mr Pickwick's Christmas' here are more stories of Mr Pickwick and his friends taken from Charles Dickens' inimitable novel 'The Pickwick Papers'. This is an evening of comedy. Mr Pickwick and his friends travel from London to the famous and fashionable Spa City of Bath in the west of England. The series of adventures and misadventures that happen to our intrepid heroes and anyone fortunate or unfortunate enough to come into contact with them, are the inevitable subject of this performance.

Mr Pickwicks neue Abenteuer - auf Englisch erzählt von Robert MacCall

Weitere Geschichten von Mr Pickwick und seinen Freunden aus Charles Dickens' unnachahmlichem Roman The Pickwick Papers. Ein komischer Abend.

Storytelling
A CHRISTMAS CAROL by Charles Dickens

Mr Scrooge is about to be enlightened by some life changing events.
Performed in English by Robert MacCall

The story of Scrooge, 'Eine Weihnachtsgeschichte’ in englischer Sprache.

“A wonderful performance.” Eine wunderbare Vorstellung für alle ab 15.
