Stories and Songs from the Wild Side

An evening of stories that speak to us of our longing to be free. But free of what? Central to this performance is the old French tale of ‘The Wild Girl’, newly translated into English. This, and ‘Marguerite. Flower of the land’ are among the wonderful stories collected by Henri Pourrat. The other stories are from other lands, Scotland, Ireland, England and all of them ask the question ‘Who are we?’ What is it that makes us human and what is it that connects us to nature? A fine evening of songs and stories sung and told with humour and individuality. Stories told by Robert MacCall, songs sung by Silke Wegerich, Christine Keil, Anneke Niemeyer and Rika Tjakea. A lovely blend of music and voice.

A new adaptation for 2017

In this performance Sam Weller comes out of retirement (from ‘The Pickwick Papers’) and takes you on an irreverent journey through the London streets to tell you the stories of the people he meets. 

Written the year after ‘A Christmas Carol’, ‘The Chimes’ again uses a fairytale with wonderfully contrasted characters to highlight the divide between rich and poor. It tells the story of the poor man Toby Veck (a street porter) and his daughter Meg (a seamstress). 

It is a moving and heartwarming tale.
